Incredibly short story #2:

"You might be the nicest thing I've ever seen... I have ever seen..." he said with his last glance, and fell into the river.  Under the water, his words echoed in his thoughts.  He felt swept away, the current pushing him who knows where.  This was as close as he had ever made it, and he resurfaced far down stream.  Next time, I have to reach out farther.  I have to try harder.  He calmly walked up onto shore over cold rocks, onto the grey river bank.  With a small sigh, he started walking upstream again.  One day he would make it.
